Code of Conduct

Our Philosophy

geeks.gay is dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive, and harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, or race. We do not tolerate harassment of community members in any form.

1. Eligibility

  • Age Requirement: You must be at least 18 years of age to join geeks.gay. This community is intended for adults; we do not allow minors, even with parental consent.
  • Verification: We reserve the right to request age verification. Providing a false birth date is a violation of this code and will result in a permanent ban.

2. Expected Behavior

To maintain a healthy environment, all members are expected to:

  • Be Kind and Respectful: Treat others with the same level of respect you expect. We are a community of diverse backgrounds; approach differences with curiosity rather than hostility.
  • Use Inclusive Language: Respect people's pronouns and preferred names. If you make a mistake, apologize briefly, correct yourself, and move on.
  • Communicate Responsibly: Keep discussions constructive. In gaming and tech environments, frustrations can arise - focus on the problem, not the person.
  • Look Out for One Another: If you see something that violates these rules, alert a moderator.

3. Unacceptable Behavior

The following behaviors are strictly prohibited and may result in a temporary or permanent ban:

  • Hate Speech and Discrimination: Any language that promotes violence, hatred, or discrimination based on identity.
  • Harassment and Bullying: This includes stalking, deliberate intimidation, unwanted photography or recording, and sustained disruption of talks or gaming sessions.
  • Deadnaming and Misgendering: Intentional deadnaming or refusal to use a member's stated pronouns.
  • Non-Consensual Sexual Content: Sharing sexually explicit content (NSFW) outside of specifically designated channels, or any form of sexual harassment.
  • Doxing: Sharing the private information of others without their explicit consent.
  • Griefing and Toxic Gaming: While competitive play is welcome, intentional "griefing" on community servers (Satisfactory, Enshrouded, etc.) or persistent toxicity in voice chat is not allowed.

4. Tech and Self-Hosting Ethics

As a community of tech enthusiasts, we also hold specific standards for our digital spaces:

  • Do No Harm: Do not use community resources, servers, or knowledge to facilitate hacking, unauthorized access, or malicious activities.
  • Privacy First: Respect the privacy of our self-hosted infrastructure. Do not attempt to bypass security measures or access data not intended for you.

5. Reporting and Enforcement

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the moderation team immediately.

  • Confidentiality: All reports will be handled with discretion.
  • Enforcement: Moderators have the right to warn, kick, or ban members who violate this Code of Conduct. We prioritize the safety of the victim over the comfort of the transgressor.

6. Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all geeks.gay spaces, including our Discord server, private game servers, TTRPG sessions, and any official in-person meetups.

By joining geeks.gay, you agree to abide by these rules and help us build a better space for queer nerds everywhere.
